Can an RO System Be Connected Directly to a Raw Water Pipeline?

Whether an RO (Reverse Osmosis) system can be directly connected to a raw water pipeline depends largely on the system’s water production capacity.
During the pre-treatment and membrane flushing phases, RO systems often require a high flow of water in a short time to flush the quartz sand filter, activated carbon filter, and RO membrane surface. This process helps remove contaminants and maintain filtration efficiency.
In most cases, the flow rate from a standard water pipeline is not sufficient to meet this high demand, which may lead to inadequate flushing and system performance issues. Therefore, we recommend using a raw water tank as a buffer to ensure a steady and sufficient water supply.
However, for smaller RO systems—such as those with a capacity of 250 liters per hour—it is typically feasible to connect directly to a raw water pipeline without the need for a storage tank.
